Weekly Shonen Jump manga, Kagurabachi, is currently set to premiere next year on April 2027. Takeru Hokazono‘s award winning series will be animated by Cygames Pictures (now known as Cypic). According to Anime News Network, the announcement and teaser was shown during Shueisha’s Jump Press livestream. Shortly after, the anime adaptation’s official website updated with more details. The production committee includes Shochiku and CyberAgent, the parent company of Cypic.
The anime will feature Tetsuya Takeuchi as Kagurabachi’s director and Keigo Sasaki as the character designer. On the website, author Hokazono expressed his excitement for the upcoming anime and compared it to the excitement of watching Naruto’s Rock Lee vs. Gaara fight. Director Takeuchi happened to work on that exact scene, which bodes well for how he’ll bring the action sequences in Kagurabachi to screen.
You know the Rock Lee vs. Gaara fight in Naruto? The manga version is great of course, but isn’t the anime’s version just incredibly cool? Well, the very person who brought that scene to life is our director! Woo! The staff is full of amazing people who really know the manga inside and out. I can’t wait to see how the animation turns out! Definitely a must-watch!

This announcement was a welcome update to the first announcement made by Toyo Keizai Online in 2024. Ahead of next year’s spring release, the Kagurabachi anime will be touring this summer around the world, showing 20 minutes of the first episode at different anime events.
The story follows Chihiro Rokuhira whose father, Kunishige, was killed in front of him after sorcerers raided their home for six enchanted blades. Seeking revenge, Chihiro wields his father’s seventh and last blade in order to retrieve the stolen swords. Its latest volume is currently up for pre-order through Viz and other retailers.
