Before its upcoming appearance at Anime Expo 2026, the official Love and Deepspace account announced the full cancellation of its upcoming launch update as well as its newest love interest, Valko. Originally teased on June 22nd, 2026, the latest love interest in this romance simulator game was met with mixed reactions.
In a detailed statement, the game’s social media posted its reasoning and future steps it’ll be taking in response to the player feedback.
We have decided to cancel both the launch and any further development of the new love interest. We also commit that no additional love interests will be introduced in future content plans.
Instead of developing new love interests, the team will “focus on further developing the stories and long-term companionship experiences of the five existing love interests.” Early complaints included longtime fans who were angry at a new character when the previous ones haven’t gotten updates.
This is a rare step taken by the developers as they spent months developing the character’s story and marketing promotion. Currently, there are no other examples of a gaming company cancelling an upcoming new character and promising to not introduce one in the future.
To reiterate, the fans weren’t protesting the development of a new love interest, but they were angry over the company’s focus on profit over customer satisfaction. Supposedly, Chinese fans had been asking for updates to the existing five love interests, only to be told that the company didn’t have the capacity. The entire ordeal came to a head when the social media accounts posted the news on Valko, which fans took as the company having resources that were spent on developing a character they never asked for.
The franchise isn’t new to sudden changes as earlier this month, the game transitioned its longtime Japanese voice actor for Zayne to a new one.
