Exclusive: Maverick to publish TIGER GIRLS in North America

A new print edition hits shelves this fall

-

Mad Cave Studios’ YA imprint, Maverick, has announced the North American publication of Singaporean webcomic Tiger Girls. Today, K-Comics Beat can exclusively reveal the details of the upcoming release.

Written by Felicia Low-Jimenez, illustrated by Claire Low, and lettered by Taylor EspositoTiger Girls takes place in a world where everyone has a physical marker of their Chinese zodiac sign. Girls born during the Year of the Tiger are considered bad omens and killed for it, but a few manage to escape the dangerous mainland for an island populated by others like them.

Here’s the full synopsis:

In a world where every person bears the mark of their Chinese zodiac sign, Tiger-born girls are feared as omens of calamity—and quietly eliminated. But Suling is the rare survivor, raised in secrecy on the remote Tiger Island among her fierce but isolated Tiger Sisters. Forced into the role of record-keeper, Suling longs for something more—freedom, purpose, answers.

When a mysterious woman washes ashore during a raging monsoon, Suling’s carefully controlled world splits open. The stranger carries dangerous knowledge of the mainland… and secrets linked to Suling’s own past. As tensions rise and the island’s future is thrown into doubt, Suling must decide: will she embrace her fate, or rewrite it?

Discover the haunting, action-filled saga in this stunning graphic novel, collecting the celebrated Tiger Girls webcomic, an exclusive new short story, and bonus behind-the-scenes content. A tale of destiny, sisterhood, and the courage to defy the stars.

“Growing up in Singapore, I’ve always felt our superstitions and myths live alongside us,” said Low-Jimenez. “It’s not uncommon to have our classroom sizes determined by the Chinese zodiac. Despite all our modernity, we are still deeply rooted in our traditional beliefs, which wield an almost uncanny power over us.

Tiger Girls takes this idea to the extreme and explores what if something as random as the date and time we were born could determine our life or death,” Low-Jimenez continued. “Southeast Asian-inspired dystopias are rare in fiction, and it was incredibly rewarding to work with Claire to visualize what this world could look like.”

Tiger Girls is a rain and blood-soaked alternate reality of what can very easily be our world. Like the oppressive darkness of a monsoon storm hanging overhead, it shows how, with enough pressure, humanity can so easily be stripped from marginalised groups for arbitrary reasons, demanding each incremental concession of morals in the name of public good,” said Low. “I hope Tiger Girls encourages readers to question their learned reality. To seek their own conclusions rather than accepting what is given simply because it is familiar or comfortable. It is an honour to illustrate this story and its vital message as my debut comic.”

K-Comics Beat named Tiger Girls one of the Best Webtoons and Webcomics of 2025. It was previously published in print by Difference Engine.

Maverick will release the new edition of Tiger Girls with a bonus short story and bonus behind-the-series material on September 15. Pre-orders are available now.
