S.E.S. member Bada points out uncanny resemblance to KPOP DEMON HUNTERS girl group

A K-Pop legend shares side-by-side proof that the animated trio might just be modeled after first-gen icons.

As KPop Demon Hunters continues its global success, first-generation K-Pop star Bada couldn’t help but notice something uncanny: an animated girl group in the film bears a surprising resemblance to her own iconic group, S.E.S. Taking to social media, Bada shared a collage photo that highlighted the similarities, right down to the signature puffy hair tie.

S.E.S., short for Sea (Bada), Eugene, and Shoo, was one of the first major K-Pop girl groups, debuting under SM Entertainment in 1997 with their hit album I’m Your Girl, which went on to sell over 650,000 copies. Often seen as the female counterpart to their labelmates H.O.T., S.E.S. left a lasting legacy before disbanding in 2002 following unsuccessful contract renewal talks. The trio later reunited in 2017 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut.

Created by Maggie Kang and co-directed by Kang and Chris Appelhans, KPop Demon Hunters follows a fierce trio of K-Pop idols who moonlight as demon hunters. Using the power of their voices, they fight evil while preparing the ultimate harmony, the Golden Honmoon, a melody that could forever seal away supernatural forces. Along the way, they face not only demons but also the mysterious boy group Saja Boys, creating high-stakes tension with a stylish soundtrack.

With KPop Demon Hunters delighting K-Pop and animation fans alike, Bada’s lighthearted observation adds an extra layer of nostalgia… and raises the fun question: was the resemblance intentional?
