KATSEYE member Lara Rajagopalan has addressed ongoing accusations of queerbaiting.
In a recent post to Weverse, Rajagopalan wrote, “If one is queer… how can they be baiting… if they are queer… That’s my question.” The singer publicly came out as queer earlier this year on the same platform, referring to herself as “half fruitcake” and explaining, “I knew I was half fruitcake when I was like 8, so I really was wanting everybody. Honestly, probably before 8. Isn’t half fruitcake such a good way to explain it without saying it?”
Since her announcement, Rajagopalan has faced harassment online, including false claims that she is an illegal immigrant. In reality, the Indian American K-Pop idol was born in Texas and raised in Los Angeles. She is recognized as one of the first South Asian women to break into K-Pop’s mainstream, making her a notable and trailblazing figure in the industry.
KATSEYE, a six-member global girl group formed through a collaboration between HYBE and Geffen Records, has been making waves since their debut in June 2024.
