When all hope seems lost, what can Seong Gi-hun still hold onto?
Netflix has unveiled a new “Final Games” trailer for the Squid Game finale, Squid Game 3, which drops in just two weeks. The trailer recaps key moments from the first two seasons but focuses more on the devastating losses Seong Gi-hun has suffered, narrated by Player 149, Jang Geumja.
The conversation between Seong Gi-hun and Jang Geumja appears to take place after Gi-hun is captured and returned to the large sleeping area. “Are you blaming yourself for everything that has happened?” she asks, her expression tinged with sorrow. “No matter how you look at it, life is just unfair. Bad people do bad things, but they blame others and go on to live in peace. Good people, on the other hand, beat themselves up about the smallest things.
“I still believe that you came here to save us all,” she says, staring earnestly at Seong Gi-hun.
Intercut with Kang Saebyeok’s desperate plea for Gi-hun not to do the unthinkable, the trailer hints at the moral crisis he must confront: How many more lives will he witness lost before the games finally end? And what—or who—is he willing to sacrifice to stop them once and for all?
New scenes in the trailer show a tense confrontation between a pink soldier and a masked superior, a deadly skipping rope game that sends players plummeting to their deaths, and a pink soldier retrieving Gi-hun with the cryptic message, “He wants to see you.”
The critically acclaimed series, created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, amassed 1.65 billion views within its first four weeks on Netflix. Season 1 featured nine episodes and starred Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Jung Ho-yeon, Anupam Tripathi, Heo Sung-tae, Lee Byung-hun, and Wi Ha-joon. Lee, Lee, and Wi returned for Season 2, joined by new cast members Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Kang Ae-shim, Park Sung-hoon, Park Gyu-young, and Jo Yu-ri.
After witnessing the horrors of his first Squid Game, where 456 players were forced into a series of deadly children’s games on a remote island, Seong Gi-hun vows to end the bloodshed. But after a crushing loss in Season 2, will he still have what it takes to succeed?
Fans will find out when Squid Game 3 premieres on June 27.
