SQUID GAME 3: Heartbreaking exclusive clip features Gi-hun in one of the darkest periods of his life

Why is Seong Gi-hun still alive after everything that happened in Season 2?

If you thought Season 2 Seong Gi-hun was depressed, wait until Season 3.

IGN recently shared an exclusive clip from the final season of Squid Game. The scene appears to pick up shortly after the events of Season 2, where protagonist Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jungjae) realizes everyone who joined his rebellion against the Front Man and the pink soldiers has died. He confronts one of the pink soldiers and screams, “Why did you let me live?” Then he grabs a gun, points it at his own head, and demands they kill him.

Screaming at the cameras, Seong Gi-hun wails, “What do you want from me? You won!” Other players watch him—some with sympathy or grief, others with thinly veiled disgust. On the other side of the monitor, the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) watches with an inscrutable expression, sipping whisky, his appearance slightly more disheveled than usual. Just then, the phone rings, and he picks it up.

Netflix released the official trailer during its TUDUM event, but this is the first time fans have seen a full clip from Squid Game 3. While the scene is undeniably somber, viewers have already begun praising Lee Jungjae’s intense performance—some even calling for him to win awards for the role.

Created and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, Squid Game premiered on Netflix in September 2021 and quickly became the platform’s most-watched show, drawing 1.65 billion views in its first four weeks. The series made history, with Lee Jungjae winning Outstanding Lead Actor at the Emmy Awards. Season 2 dropped on December 26, 2024, and racked up 68 million views in just 72 hours.

The story centers on 456 participants, each drowning in debt they cannot repay. The game pits them against each other in a series of deadly children’s games for the chance to win 45.6 billion won. The series follows Seong Gi-hun, a divorced gambling addict who enters the games in Season 1 and willingly returns in Season 2 to seek revenge.

Squid Game 3 premieres on Netflix on June 27. Get ready.
