Syundei, creator of Go For It, Nakamura!, deletes X account after being told to “disappear”

The author was harassed by fans who were upset over content in Go For It, Nakamura!

-

Go For It, Nakamura! creator, Syundei, deleted her X (formerly Twitter) account after a barrage of online attacks. In a deleted post, the manga author expressed her doubts over continuing as a manga author due to online and was told to “disappear.” This comes in light of a seemingly increasing amount of harassment stemming from the manga’s depiction of Aiki Hirose (a student) and Sou Otogiri (a teacher) as well as raunchy scenes with Aiki and an octopus.

Because I only ever receive complaints consisting of “Why would you ever draw this?”, and I seem to lack the ability to create works that brings the joy everyone expects, I don’t think there’s any point in continuing as a manga artist. I thought it would be best to give a final goodbye, but since I was told to immediately disappear, I will erase this by noon. -Syundei

Last year, Syundei responded to a Brazilian fan’s accusation that the manga showed an inappropriate relationship between Aiki and Sou. The artist clarified that the teacher has no ill-intentions. As a quick note, this was also not the starting moment that led to her deletion, however there were users who became angry seeing their interaction in the anime.

After the recent episodes, old discussions were trudged up by new fans who discovered the series through the recent anime adaptation. Syundei’s choice to remove her account likely stemmed from ongoing criticism and harassment from renewed conversations and misunderstandings. In response to the shift in the series’ sentiment, multiple fans have done the hard work to compare the changes between the anime and the manga in order to help new readers prepare for it. Yet, this seemed to fan the flames as others expressed disgust as they dug up Syundei’s old artwork and content depicting a romantic affection between Aiki and Sou.

This moment marks yet another unfortunate situation with angry, overzealous fans cross the line and cause an author to close their account. Earlier this week, publisher Seven Seas Entertainment had to respond to harassment over its English translations of Little Mushroom.

Syundei’s closure of her X account as well as her last post makes the future of Go For It, Nakamura! chapters unclear. There has been no official announcement on a hiatus or continuation in light of this situation.
