JOHO’s SAPHIE THE ONE-EYED CAT Comes to Scholastic

Cat hijinks ensue

-

Volume 1 of the beloved webcomic, SAPHIE THE ONE-EYED CAT, created by Joanna Ho (professionally known as JOHO), will hit bookstore shelves on Feb. 4, 2025, as an upcoming Scholastic print release. Originally presented as a vertical scroll comic on WEBTOON, SAPHIE has earned over 100 million reads and amassed more than half a million subscribers, making it a sensation among fans of the slice-of-life genre.

Although the publisher recommends this paws-itively purrfect graphic novel for readers between the ages of 7 and 10, book lovers of any age will find delight in Saphie’s antics. The story follows the titular cat, Saphie, a spirited, one-eyed feline who, alongside her housecat brothers, spends their days engaging in adorable mischief that any cat owner will recognize, including scratching forbidden places, knocking over various objects, and creating absolute chaos wherever they roam. Saphie’s adventures are as relatable as they are entertaining, and JOHO manages to bring the charm and humor of the everyday life of a cat owner to the page.

JOHO, a graduate with a BFA from George Mason University, affectionately jokes that she comes from a “long lineage of cat butlers,” which has undoubtedly influenced her dedicated to portraying her feline characters in such a charming light. Besides her work on SAPHIE THE ONE-EYED CAT, JOHO also works as an illustrator on the rom-com WEBTOON Love on Target, where she uses her talent for capturing fun and playful expressions, allowing the characters to shine.

Scholastic will publish SAPHIE THE ONE-EYED CAT in two formats—hardcover, priced at $24.99, and paperback at $12.99—allowing fans to choose their preferred edition for their collection. Although Volume 1 won’t hit shelves until February 2025, pre-orders are available now.
