Inklore’s spring and summer catalog features several highly anticipated series debuts and the return of fan-favorite titles, including the penultimate volume of Lore Olympus. Today, K-Comics Beat has an exclusive sneak peek at what’s to come from the publisher.

Before diving into upcoming titles, here’s a quick recap on recent releases from Inklore.

Winter releases from Inklore

In February, Inklore released the first volume of The Knight and Her Emperor by G.M., adapted by Heyum and illustrated by WinterVol. 2 will hit shelves on August 11, continuing the story of Pollyana and Luxos.

“In a sea of reborn villainesses and tyrants-turned-husbands, The Knight and Her Emperor is a fantasy standout thanks to its badass lady knight,” said editor Katelyn Hemmeke. “Our heroine Pollyanna isn’t just a big lady swinging a sword—she’s steadfastly loyal and a cool-headed strategist, yet brimming under the surface is a deep pool of rage that stems from a lifetime of Fighting the Patriarchy. You simply can’t help but fall in love with her as she disproves all the misogynist haters and earns her position by the emperor’s side with pure skill and hard work. (It’s no wonder the emperor falls in love with her, too.)”

On March 3, Inklore released The Makeup Remover, Vol. 1, by Lee YeonVol. 2 goes on sale July 7 and follows newly-minted reality TV model Kim Yeseul and her makeup artist, Cheon Yeusong, further into the cutthroat world of competitive cosmetics.

Editor Hemmeke said, “This series is a textbook binge-read—and I know because I binge-read the whole webcomic in a single day. It has all the drama of your favorite reality TV show and/or K-drama, but it’s weirder (positive), funnier, and chock-full of good vibes with its message of accepting others and loving yourself.

“Throughout the story, creator Lee Yeon presents us with a slew of society’s impossible norms, stereotypes, and beauty standards—and then deftly subverts them. This may look like a typical makeover story at first glance, but it is SO much more than that,” Hemmeke concluded.

King's Maker Vol 2

Also on March 3, King’s Maker, Vol. 2 by Haga and Kang Kiyoung hit shelves. In a round table review of Vol. 1K-Comics Beat‘s Hilary Leung said, “This story is more of a slow burn in terms of the romance department, which makes sense since the focus is on two (very traumatized, very determined, very ‘I’ll-watch-the-world-burn-if-I-can-create-another-one-anew’) children trying to usurp the king, but for those who have been looking for a story with fantastic world-building, a political plot, and two people going against the world, look no further than King’s Maker!”

To round out March, Inklore will release The Broken Ring: This Marriage Will Fail Anyway, Vol. 2 by Chacha Kim, adapted by Chokam and illustrated by Cheong-gwaVol. 3 will follow on August 25, bringing more of the beloved web series to print.

On March 24, My Love Story with Yamada-Kun at Lvl 999, Vol. 6 by Mashiro hits shelves, followed by Vol. 7 on August 18.

Inklore’s summer series debuts

Sora and Haena Vol 1

Inklore will add three new series to its already impressive catalog this summer, starting with the Girls’ Love romantic comedy Sora & Haena!, Vol. 1 by Jackbull. Here’s the synopsis:

Opposites attract is this GL rom-com! Yoon Sora may be the top student in her class, but her social skills are way below average. Desperate to impress her classmates, she lies about having a boyfriend, then completely panics! Luckily for Sora, she happens to meet Woo Haena, a rambunctious upperclassman from a different school that’s infamous for poor academic performance. The two girls strike a deal: Haena will help Sora get a boyfriend, and Sora will help Haena get into college. But as they try to achieve both seemingly impossible goals, their alliance just might turn into something more…

Hemmeke, who also edited Sora & Haena!, Vol. 1, told K-Comics Beat, “I love that more GL/yuri is hitting shelves these days, and this one is a must-read: an absolutely classic high school romance, featuring some of the cutest girlies ever to be seen in 4C print. This series earned an instant A+ from the Inklore team thanks to its opposites-attract romance, quirky humor, and colorful crew of classmates (including an absolutely unhinged school rival). It’s irresistibly sweet and fluffy, but not without substance. Make way and make room on your bookshelf for the Orange Yuri!”

Sora & Haena!, Vol. 1 will be available July 14.

Daughter of a Thousand Faces, Vol. 1 cover art

K-Comics Beat previously revealed the cover for Daughter of a Thousand Faces, Vol. 1 by Velinxi, which debuts in August. The story follows the disgraced Shen Yuhua, who—in addition to being rejected almost two dozen times by potential suitors—did not inherit any of her immortal father’s powers and suffered the grief of her mother being executed for treason.

When Shen meets the Demon with a Thousand Faces, Chu Tian, she accidentally frees him from the prison in which her father trapped him decades ago and becomes his unwilling disciple. However, this might allow her to finally develop powers and become a warrior…

“One look at Velinxi’s breathtaking art is all it really takes to fall in love with this series, but Daughter of a Thousand Faces isn’t just eye candy. Its story is the most exquisite of emotional roller coasters, featuring a scrappy, relatable heroine; a twisted relationship with the demonic father figure she never asked for; and a rich fantasy world full of secrets and lore,” said Hemmeke.

“I’m obsessed with how this series really blurs the line between good vs. evil and god vs. demon—it always keeps you guessing who is really on which side. Vel is a true master of her craft, and she’s just getting started,” Hemmeke continued.

Daughter of a Thousand Faces, Vol. 1 will be available August 26.

In September, gothic horror Delusion, Vol. 1 by Hongjacga will hit shelves, bringing the Webtoon series to print for the first time ahead of its Disney+ series debut.

In 1935 Seoul,  struggling artist Yun Iho has been commissioned by the elderly, reclusive Madam Song Jeonghwa to paint an updated portrait of her. When Iho goes to pick up the art supplies from the previous artist’s room, he finds an ominous note tucked between paint tubes: “Do not finish the portrait.” To make matters stranger, when he actually meets Madam Song, he finds her to be startlingly young and beautiful, yet she asks him to paint her as though she were eighty. In a slowly unfolding revelation, each panel drenched in more dread than the last, Iho learns that no artist has ever left Madam Song’s hotel alive.

“I’ve always been drawn to relationship-driven storytelling—and that doesn’t always mean romantic relationships,” said senior editor Sarah Peed. “In Delusion, while the core of the story isn’t a romance, what drew me in was that it is entirely centered around one woman’s many relationships, both past and present, coming back to haunt or help her.

“Is it an atmospheric, gorgeously blood-drenched period piece full of swoon-worthy art and gripping horror? Yes, of course! But it’s ultimately grounded in the reality of humanity, and how the ties the bind us all can change the course of our mortal—or immortal, in this case—lives,” Peed continued.

Delusion, Vol. 1 will be available September 1.
