KPop Demon Hunters is holding strong on the music charts.

The hit animated film went up, up, up the Billboard 200 and secured the top spot for the first time, weeks after its release. This marks the first soundtrack to hit number one this year. In its twelfth week, the soundtrack sold 128,000 units, bringing its total to 1,120,000 units since release. The last soundtrack to reach the top of the Billboard 200 was Encanto back in 2022.

KPop Demon Hunters is also dominating the Billboard Hot 100. HUNTR/X’s “Golden” has stayed at number one for five consecutive weeks, making it the longest-running number-one hit in Hot 100 history. The Saja Boys’ tracks “Soda Pop” and “Your Idol” also climbed the charts, landing at numbers 5 and 4, respectively.

Director Maggie Kang aimed to spotlight Korean culture, including food, music, and mythology, and specifically cast Korean voice actors and singers for the roles of HUNTR/X and the Saja Boys. Kang and Chris Appelhans directed the film, with a screenplay co-written by Kang, Appelhans, Danya Jimenez, and Hannah McMechan. Sony Pictures Imageworks animated the feature, which premiered on Netflix on June 20.

EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami provided the singing voices of Rumi, Mira, and Zoey. Andrew Choi, Joel Kim Booster, Kevin Woo, Neckwav, and Danny Chung voiced Jinu, Romance, Mystery, Abby, and Googoo-gaga (a.k.a. Baby Saja).

KPop Demon Hunters shattered streaming records as Netflix’s top-watched hit with 266 million views. Its popularity also led to a short weekend theatrical run and a drone show in Seoul. The story follows HUNTR/X, a K-Pop girl group adored worldwide for their charisma and vocals. But the group hides a secret: they also hunt demons to protect human souls from the demon king Gwi-Ma. Just as they prepare to seal the demons for good, their mission is disrupted by a rival demon boy band—the Saja Boys.

Fans can continue streaming KPop Demon Hunters on music platforms and watch the film now on Netflix.
