Marry My Husband is hitting Amazon Prime as a Japanese series.
Amazon Prime Japan has announced a Japanese remake of the hit Korean drama Marry My Husband, originally adapted from the popular webnovel. This marks the first Japanese production by CJ ENM (Parasite) and Studio Dragon (Crash Landing on You). Acclaimed director Ahn Gil-ho (The Glory) will helm the adaptation, with screenwriter Satomi Ōshima (1 Litre of Tears, Sayonara, Maestro!) penning the script.
Koshiba Fuka (Berabou) stars as Misa Kobe—based on the original character Kang Jiwon. Satoh Takeru (First Love, Rurouni Kenshin) takes on the role of Wataru Suzuki, originally Yoo Jihyuk. Shiraishi Sei plays Reina Esaka, Misa’s best friend (Jeong Sumin in the Korean version), while Yokoyama Yû portrays Tomoya Hirano, Misa’s cheating husband, originally named Park Minhwan.
According to The Futon Critic, Koshiba praised the script for blending the best elements of the original with a uniquely Japanese flair. On her portrayal of Misa, she said, “Even as Misa pursues revenge, she remains inherently kind. I wanted to show someone Wataru would naturally want to protect—a character who struggles with revenge because of her sincere, straightforward nature.”
Satoh and Sei, both longtime fans of Director Ahn, expressed their gratitude for the chance to work with him. Satoh focused on preserving the “core essence” of Wataru’s protective nature, while Sei shared that the role helped her discover “new dimensions of myself as a performer.”
Yokoyama jokingly recalled his friends’ reactions to his casting: “‘You’re playing THAT role?!’” He admitted the part was challenging but hopes viewers enjoy this fresh take on the story.
Written by sungsojak, Marry My Husband follows a terminally ill woman named Kang Jiwon who catches her husband, Park Minhwan, in bed with her best friend, Jeong Sumin. Jiwon is accidentally killed, but when she opens her eyes again, she realizes she has been sent back ten years in time. Knowing what she knows now about her soon-to-be-ex-husband and her soon-to-be-ex-best-friend, Jiwon hatches a plan to get revenge: get Sumin to marry her husband. The webnovel was adapted into a webcomic by Studio Lico.
A Korean drama adaptation aired from January to February 2024, starring Park Minyoung, Na Inwoo, Lee Yikyung, and Song Hayoon. The 16-episode drama can be watched on Amazon Prime, excluding South Korea and China, where it hit number one in the global daily TV show ranking on the streaming platform. Those in South Korea can stream it on TVING.
Marry My Husband is available to read on WEBTOON. The Japanese remake premieres worldwide on June 27, exclusively on Amazon Prime.
