SOLO LEVELING wins “best anime” at Astra Awards

Congratulations, Solo Leveling!

-

Solo Leveling continues its impressive reign by securing another award. The series won “Best Anime Series” at the 4th Astra TV Awards in the inaugural category.

Solo Leveling stood among strong contenders, including Blue Eye Samurai, Pluto, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Ninja Kamui, and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.

Aleks Le, the English voice actor for Sung Jinwoo, accepted the award on behalf of Aniplex, A-1 Pictures, and Crunchyroll. “Fourteen years ago, I was barely able to string along an English sentence,” Le said. “But to be here on this stage, to be part of something so cool, and created by so many amazing [and] talented artists, musicians, storywriters, voice directors, incredible voice actors from all around the globe… It’s so inspiring to see this medium and these stories get recognized. I’m kind of shaking a little bit, so sorry about that.”

Shunsuke Nakashige, the director for Solo Leveling, and Aniplex’s producer Furuhashi expressed their thanks for the award. “The staff is collectively working to make sure that it’s more of the [Solo Leveling] series you loved, and we hope you’ll look forward to it.”

Solo Leveling, based on the hugely popular webnovel by Chugong and the webcomic adaptation by the late DUBU, debuted as an anime series in January 2024, animated and produced by A-1 Pictures. The first season follows E-Rank Hunter Sung Jinwoo who gets the opportunity of a lifetime when he’s chosen as a Player by the System just as he’s on the verge of death in a double dungeon raid.

The second season was announced for January 2025. Nakashige will return to direct. Season 2 has welcomed the vocal talents of LiSA and Stray Kids’ Felix for the opening theme song “ReawakeR.” Fans can catch a sneak peek of Season 2 in the compilation film Solo Leveling -ReAwakening- which released in the U.S. and Canada on December 6.

Solo Leveling can be read on Tapas and Manta, with the webnovel available on Tapas. The anime is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
