Fans of the South Korean manhwa Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint will be happy to know that the story concluded its Season 1 after 311 chapters. Created by author singNsong, the story follows office worker Kim Dokja who spends his time reading his favorite web novel Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse. When the web novel suddenly spreads into his reality, ordinary people are suddenly thrust into games where its killed or be killed as goblins and monsters prowl the streets. Dokja fights in various trials and challenges known as scenarios to combat the evil forces that have bled into his world. Armed with the knowledge on how the story ends, he dives headfirst into battle to save not only his world, but change the course of the web novel he holds dear.
During its run, Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint has expanded from its South Korean roots all the way to the west. The original web novel was written by singNsong and published on the South Korean platform Munpia. In September of 2019, South Korean platform Munpia had announced that the web novel would have its very own five feature length films. In May of 2023, Ahn Hyo-seop (who fans may know as Jinu from KPop Demon Hunters) and Lee Min-Ho were revealed to be cast as Kim Dok-ja and Yoo Jung-hyuk respectfully.
The novel has since then expanded into an e-book version and, in turn, has been published digitally in English on the web novel platform WEBTOON in August 2020. Additionally, an anime adaptation was announced at the 2024 Anime Expo by both Crunchyroll and Aniplex. Although there’s little information about the anime adaptation, the anime is slated for a 2027 release alongside a mobile game by Com2us.
Yen Press publishes Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint in the US, which is available to purchase on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. The web comic is available to view on WEBTOON.
