HYBE is officially stepping into the K-Pop film industry.
Riding the wave of success from KPop Demon Hunters, a Netflix Original animated film produced by Sony, HYBE has announced a partnership with Paramount Pictures to co-produce its first movie. The film will star Ji-young Yoo (the voice of Zoey in KPop Demon Hunters) and K-Pop soloist Eric Nam in the leading roles.
According to eyopkr, the story follows a Korean American teen who defies her family’s wishes to chase her dream of becoming a K-Pop idol through a reality TV competition. Production is set to begin in Korea this September, with a theatrical release tentatively scheduled for February 2027.
Reaction to the news has been mixed. On eyopkr’s Instagram, one commenter said, “This is the movie’s concept? Sounds like any other reality K-Pop group survival show.” Others criticized HYBE’s move, accusing the company of chasing trends: “HYBE jumping into a bandwagon and trying to cash in on something genuine and original? Groundbreaking.” Another user joked, “They be mad TWICE was involved,” referencing the popular JYP Entertainment girl group that contributed vocals to KPop Demon Hunters’ soundtrack.
Still, not all fans were skeptical. One simply wrote, “Say anything, I’m 100% going to watch it.”
HYBE, originally founded as Big Hit Entertainment by Bang Si-hyuk in 2005, has grown into a global entertainment powerhouse. Its roster includes BTS, Tomorrow X Together (TXT), and NewJeans (under subsidiary ADOR).
Details about the upcoming film remain limited, but anticipation is already building for HYBE’s cinematic debut.
