Fans embrace Under the Oak Tree‘s author’s newest series, The Forgotten Meadow.
Kim Suji, the beloved author behind the hit romantasy Under the Oak Tree, has returned with a brand-new webnovel—and readers are already hooked. Titled The Forgotten Meadow, the series premiered with a pre-release of Episode 1 on April 19 and officially launched on May 4. Since then, it has surged in popularity, climbing to second place in Kakao Page’s overall view rankings at launch.
New episodes of The Forgotten Meadow will update daily until May 18, after which it will adopt a regular update schedule of four times a week, from Tuesday to Friday. As of this article’s writing, over 50 episodes have been released.
According to a Google translation, the story follows Princess Thalia, the illegitimate daughter of a royal affair. Shunned by her resentful stepbrothers and mistreated by the palace staff, she closes herself off from the world and lashes out at anyone who tries to come near. The only exception is the emotionally reserved Eastern Prince Barkas, whose own trauma compels him to hide his feelings. Although Thalia lets her guard down around him, Barkas ultimately chooses duty over love, marrying her stepsister and leaving Thalia heartbroken.
Kim Suji’s earlier work, Under the Oak Tree, won international acclaim and made history when its English print edition became the first Korean novel to appear on the New York Times Best Seller List for Hardcover Fiction. The webnovel tells the story of Maxi, a stuttering young noblewoman forced into an arranged marriage with a humble knight named Riftan. As they grow closer, Maxi slowly finds confidence and strength through their evolving relationship.
While The Forgotten Meadow has yet to receive an official English translation, fans can enjoy Under the Oak Tree digitally on Manta Comics, with the print edition published by Inklore.
