The Remarried Empress live-action could potentially feature a star-studded cast.

Reports indicate that Shin Min-ah (Oh My Venus and Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha) and Lee Jong-suk (W and While You Were Sleeping) have received offers to play key roles in the adaptation of the webtoon The Remarried Empress. Shin may portray Navier, the eponymous empress, while Lee could take on the role of Heinrich Alex Laszlo, the prince who later marries Navier.

Currently, both actors are reviewing the offers and have not confirmed their participation in the project.

Studio N, a subsidiary of Webtoon Entertainment Inc., plans to produce the live-action adaptation with Jo Soo-won directing. Studio N focuses on adapting webtoons and webnovels for film and television. The studio has previously created live-action adaptations of Sweet Home, Nevertheless, True Beauty, Chicken Nugget, and See You in My 19th Life.

Shin’s career began in 1998 as a model before she debuted in the film Volcano High and Beautiful Days. She earned her first award at the SBS Drama Award for “New Star” when she took on the starring role of Madeleine alongside Jo In-sung. In 2015, she was cast in the romcom Oh My Venus where she won “Outstanding Korean Actress” at the Seoul International Drama Awards. Most recently, Shin acted in the film Our Season and No Gain No Love drama series.

Lee debuted in 2005 as a model and took small roles in various films and television shows such as Secret Garden. His breakout role would happen in 2012 when he played Go Nam-soon in School 2013, which earned him his first award at the KBS Drama Awards for “Best New Actor.” Following School 2013, Lee took the male lead opposite Lee Bo-young in the critically acclaimed series I Can Hear Your Voice. Most recently, he acted in the film Decibel and the drama Big Mouth in 2022.

Jo previously worked with Lee on two other dramas, Pinocchio and I Can Hear Your Voice. Both dramas have garnered numerous awards for the actor and the director.

Alphatart originally wrote The Remarried Empress as a webnovel, and Sumpul later adapted it into a webcomic. The story follows Navier Ellie Trovi, the beloved and intelligent empress of the Eastern Empire. Despite her perfection, her husband audaciously brings home a mistress and demands a divorce. Navier agrees to the divorce but imposes a condition: she will remarry.

The Remarried Empress is available to read digitally on WEBTOON.
