Beloved Webtoon series Lookism has surpassed 1 billion views after 12 years on the platform. Created by Taejun Pak, the manhwa debuted in 2014 and has since amassed nearly 600 episodes and 3.7 million subscribers.
Webtoon announced the news in a social media post, writing, “Lookism has officially surpassed 1 billion views on our English language platform, marking a major milestone for the long-running series. Since its debut in 2014, the webcomic has built a global audience and even expanded into a Netflix animated adaptation, demonstrating how successful digital-first stories can grow across formats.”

Lookism follows Daniel, a fat teenager who’s bullied for his weight and his looks. One day, he wakes up in a thinner, taller body that immediately grants him popularity and desirousness he’s never experienced before. He soon begins to experience life in two bodies: during the day, he lives in his new body, and at night, he lives in his original body. The experience allows him to see how much the world discriminates against anyone who doesn’t fit cultural beauty standards.
The webcomic was adapted for a Netflix limited series in 2022.
Reaching 1 billion global views on Webtoon is no easy feat — fewer than 100 webcomics hosted on the platform have hit this milestone since the site launched in 2014. Lookism joins titles including Rachel Smythe’s Lore Olympus, SIU’s Tower of God, Yaongyi’s True Beauty, and more.
