Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters continues to make waves months after its release—this time, not just for its music or animation, but for its merch. The official soundtrack CD has become the latest collector’s obsession, thanks to the inclusion of randomized photocards.
Each physical album includes one photocard at random. Much like real-life K-Pop merch, this randomization has turned what could have been a simple soundtrack release into a full-fledged collecting frenzy. Fans are buying multiple copies, unboxing them on TikTok, and even trading online in hopes of completing the set.
Unfortunately, the excitement has also led to a growing resale market, with listings appearing on eBay for opened copies of the soundtrack selling at more than double the retail price—depending on which photocard is included.
The phenomenon mirrors the real-world K-Pop culture of collecting photocards, where limited-edition and rare prints can sell for significant sums among dedicated fandoms. Even though KPop Demon Hunters is an animated fantasy musical, Netflix seems to have successfully tapped into that same fan energy through its fictional idols.
With its hit single “Golden” by HUNTR/X (EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami) dominating social media, and its characters inspiring fan art, covers, and cosplay, KPop Demon Hunters has proven it’s more than just an animated film—it’s a pop culture moment.
