The elusive X takes the stage in a brand-new opening for To Be Hero X.
In a show about the top ten heroes, with the most powerful being a white-haired enigma known only as “X,” To Be Hero X has dedicated arcs to each member of the Top 11 (IYKYK). Until the last few episodes, fans hadn’t seen much of X despite his central role in the promotional video leading up to the donghua’s premiere. Needless to say, excitement and anticipation are ramping up for this top hero, and the donghua celebrated with a new X-themed opening MV.
The opening begins with a quick run-through of the top ten heroes before transitioning to X in his corporate civilian persona. A high school girl bursts onto the scene and, seemingly familiar with him, shoves him into a café. She lays out a set of tarot cards, drawing “The Fool.” With a shift of her fingers, she reveals another card underneath: “The Chariot.” Instantly, the art style shifts into a darker, almost psychedelic tone, with flashes of Zero and X’s allies flying by. Meanwhile, the other heroes battle their foes. The opening concludes with X staring up at a levitating figure surrounded by playing cards, the streets around him looking as though they’ve just witnessed a battlefield.
A new visual to commemorate the final episode has also been released:

To Be Hero X is the brainchild of Li Haolin (Link Click). BeDream, Bilibili, and Aniplex co-produced the donghua. The series made quite a splash as early as November 2022 when it dazzled audiences with seamless transitions between 2D and 3D animation, but it took nearly three years to finally make its appearance. Since its premiere on April 6, the story—about the power of belief and faith turning people into heroes—has captivated fans. Now, they’re waiting on the edge of their seats for the finale, which will showcase a competition to decide the top hero: the next X.
The final episode of To Be Hero X airs on September 14 on Crunchyroll.
