Former Disney and LA Times executive joins WEBTOON to lead global marketing strategy and drive platform growth among Gen Z and digital-first readers.

Priya Girishankar, a former Disney and LA Times executive, brings decades of brand and consumer engagement experience to the fast-growing webcomics platform.

WEBTOON Entertainment, the global media company known for bringing webcomics into the mainstream, has named Priya Girishankar as Head of Marketing for its global English-language platform.

Based at WEBTOON’s Los Angeles headquarters, Girishankar will report directly to Yongsoo Kim, the company’s Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Global WEBTOON. In her new role, she will lead strategic marketing efforts aimed at accelerating the platform’s next phase of growth and further expanding its reach among digital-native audiences.

WEBTOON is already a powerhouse among Gen Z and Gen Alpha readers, boasting over 160 million active users worldwide. With hit titles such as Lore Olympus, Heartstopper, and Tower of God, the platform has redefined digital storytelling and helped bridge comics and pop culture. Its partnerships with publishers like DC and IDW, along with streaming adaptations on Netflix, Prime Video, and Crunchyroll, have helped expand its global influence.

“Her ability to build and scale meaningful relationships between brands and consumers is matched by her strategic discipline and passion for storytelling,” said Kim. “As we continue to grow our business and connect fans with the stories they love, Priya’s leadership will play a critical role in shaping the next chapter of Webtoon’s growth.”

Girishankar brings more than 20 years of marketing leadership experience to WEBTOON. She spent nearly two decades at The Walt Disney Company, where she developed and led Disney Rewards, a company-wide engagement program that drove fan loyalty across business units. As Senior Vice President of Enterprise CRM and General Manager of Consumer Financial Services, she oversaw substantial revenue growth and scaled the program to over five million active members.

Most recently, she served as Executive Vice President of Subscription Growth, Advertising Operations, and Customer Service at the Los Angeles Times, where she implemented new strategies to grow digital subscriptions and boost profitability.

Girishankar holds a BA in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from UCLA’s Anderson School of Management. She is also a member of CHIEF, a national organization supporting women in corporate leadership, and serves on the board of Girls in Tech LA.

With Girishankar at the marketing helm, WEBTOON appears well-positioned to deepen its connection with fans, grow its user base, and expand its footprint in the entertainment industry.
