Seven Seas licenses danmei & BL manhwa, including PAINTER OF THE NIGHT

Seven Seas Entertainment treated fans to another Wonderful Wednesday, announcing 10 new series, including a highly anticipated danmei novel and three popular BL manhwa, including Painter of the Night.

The publisher kicked things off with Twin Jades of Jiangdong, a two-volume danmei novel by beloved author Fei Tian Ye Xiang, also known as Arise Zhang. They followed up with the licensing of three immensely popular BL manhwa, sending BL fans into a frenzy (and straight to budgeting mode).

Twin Jades of Jiangdong

Adding to its growing danmei collection, Seven Seas announced Twin Jades of Jiangdong, a poignant story set during the Romance of the Three Kingdoms era. The novel follows Zhou Yu and Sun Ce, two young men whose close bond is tested by war. Despite the promise they made to each other, the shifting tides of their status and positions threaten to tear them apart.

Fei Tian Ye Xiang’s works have been well-received among danmei readers, with previous Seven Seas licenses including Astrolabe Rebirth, Dinghai Fusheng Records, Joyful Reunion, Legend of Exorcism, and Riverbay Road Men’s Dormitory.

Twin Jades of Jiangdong Vol. 1 is set to release in January 2026, with moon as the translator.

Dear. Door

Written and illustrated by Pluto, Dear. Door combines supernatural elements with a gripping BL romance. The story follows Kyungjoon, a grief-stricken cop who, despite his personal loss, remains committed to his duty. While investigating a case, he finds himself in the clutches of the demon king Lord Cain, who requires mana to survive. The twist? Cain’s mana can only be accessed through a “door” inside Kyungjoon.

Known for its intense themes and explicit content, Dear. Door isn’t for the faint of heart. The manhwa, which concluded on April 11, 2023, consists of 130 episodes and 33 side stories and is available digitally on Lezhin and Manta.

Low Tide in Twilight

For fans of omegaverse BL with dark themes, Low Tide in Twilight, written and illustrated by euja, is a must-read. The story follows Kim Euihyun, who, drowning in debt, sees no escape but to end his life with his younger brother. Before he can follow through, he’s saved by Yeo Taeju, a sadistic alpha who offers to pay off his debt—for a price.

This gripping series won Bomtoon’s 2024 Award for Best BL and is available digitally on Lezhin.

Low Tide in Twilight, Vol. 1 is set to release in January 2026 for $24.99 USD / $33.99 CAD.

Painter of the Night

Seven Seas wrapped up their announcements with a showstopper—the highly anticipated Painter of the Night by Byeonduck. This immensely popular BL manhwa follows Na-kyum, an artist who secretly paints homoerotic works. His life takes a drastic turn when Seungho, a dangerously unpredictable nobleman, discovers his identity and forces him to become his personal painter.

The manhwa concluded its third and final season on November 10, 2023, with a two-part epilogue released in May 2024. Byeonduck is currently working on additional side stories. Painter of the Night remains one of the most successful BL manhwa on Lezhin.
