Nezha 2, also known as Nezha: The Demon Child Churns the Sea, has been breaking records left and right. According to Discussing Film, it is now the fifth highest-grossing movie of all time, surpassing Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

In addition to overtaking The Force Awakens, Nezha 2 has also surpassed Inside Out 2, making it the highest-grossing animated film to date. It has outperformed the lifetime gross of the Disney film and continues to receive high praise from critics. Rotten Tomatoes reports a 92% positive rating with an average score of 8.0/10, while it holds an impressive 9.7/10 on Maoyan and 9.8/10 on Taopiaopiao. In February, Global Times reported that Nezha 2 crossed the $1 billion milestone, making it the first non-Hollywood film to achieve this feat.

Released in 2025, Nezha 2 is a donghua fantasy adventure written and directed by Jiaozi. Adapted from Chinese mythology and the 16th-century novel Investiture of the Gods, the film serves as a direct sequel to 2019’s Nezha and marks the third installment in Enlight Pictures‘ Fengshen universe. The story follows Ne Zha and Ao Bing, whose physical bodies are destroyed after being struck by heavenly lightning. To prevent their souls from fading, they seek help from Master Taiyi Zhenren, who sacrifices his Seven-Colored Sacred Lotus to regenerate their fragile forms. To fully restore the sacred lotus and create a new body for Ao Bing, they must complete Immortal Wuliang’s three trials and ascend to xian—a challenge that proves far from simple.

Nezha 2 premiered in theaters across the U.S. and Canada on February 14. The first film is available for streaming on Viki, YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Apple TV, though availability varies by region.
