Updated on February 21 at 1:17 PM ET: This article previously stated that the manhua has been removed from Kuaikanmahua but has been updated to remove this statement as Sa Ye still appears on the platform.

Sa Ye, the manhua adaptation of the modern Chinese BL web novel, has been abruptly canceled.

Fans were devastated to discover that the popular series has stop serialization without warning. The final chapter included a note, but it offered no explanation for the cancellation. While no official reason has been given, speculation suggests that low earnings on the platform may have led to its abrupt end.

The cancelation comes at the end of Chapter 146, right as Jiang Cheng vows to help Gu Fei leave their rundown town and finally be free. The final panel shows the two walking hand in hand, never looking back. A closing note roughly translates to: “Thank you for reading all these years. We tried to fit as much content into this last chapter as possible. The Sa Ye manhua has officially concluded. We’ll meet again in the future!”

Written by Wu Zhe and illustrated by Zuoercongdong, Sa Ye (also known as Run Wild) follows Jiang Cheng, who is sent to live with his birth father in a bleak northern town after being cast aside by his adoptive parents. Determined to leave as soon as possible, his plans take an unexpected turn when he meets Gu Miao, a quiet girl who communicates through snaps, and her older brother Gu Fei—the only warmth in Jiang Cheng’s life. Little does he know, he becomes the same for Gu Fei.

Seven Seas Entertainment licensed Sa Ye for a print release, with the first volume debuting on January 21 and the second set for June 10. While a live-action adaptation and donghua were teased, China’s censorship laws make their release unlikely. English readers can still find the manhua on Tappytoon.
