Manta has announced a new subscription plan that expands its existing library for subscribers.
Starting February 11 at 12 AM ET, Manta will launch the Premium Plan, priced at $9.99 per month. This plan gives readers access to Manta’s library of 300 titles and includes 125 monthly Gems. Subscribers can use these Gems to unlock previously Gem-locked titles like The Pizza Delivery Man and Gold Palace, Lucia, and Regas. Since each webcomic chapter costs about five Gems, subscribers can access up to 25 chapters. Alternatively, they can use their Gems to purchase webnovels, typically priced at around 35 Gems per volume.
Manta will continue offering its Standard Plan at $4.99 per month, giving readers full access to its library, excluding Gem-only titles. Readers who choose not to subscribe can still access Manta’s titles, but only the Gem-only ones.
According to Sungmin Kang, the Head of Content and Operations, the Premium Plan was designed with the focus of bringing “the best value and experience to our users.” Kang said, “We’ve been working tirelessly to keep our unlimited subscription library vibrant and to provide even more ways for fans to enjoy their favorite stories. This plan reflects our vision of bringing captivating stories to fans worldwide while continuing to support our talented creators and partners.”
Manta’s readership model has evolved over the years. When the platform launched in November 2020, it offered a subscription plan where readers could pay a monthly or annual fee to access its entire library of webcomics. The collection spanned genres like romantasy, slice-of-life, fantasy, BL, and GL, though all titles were available in all-ages versions. Manta later introduced an in-app currency system called Gems, initially limited to webnovel access. This system was eventually revamped to include mature versions of its all-ages webcomics and titles from Manta’s external partners.
Manta remains one of the few platforms offering a subscription service, while most webcomic platforms rely on in-app currency systems where readers pay per chapter. Although Manta has adapted its strategy to keep pace with the webcomics industry’s growth, introducing two subscription plan options will make it easier and more affordable for readers to enjoy webcomics.
