Sung Jinwoo prepares for his big screen debut this December as Solo Leveling -ReAwakening-, the compilation film for the hit webcomic-turned-anime, released two English-subtitled trailers this week.
The film compiles the first season and gives fans a sneak peek of the first two episodes of the second season, titled “-Arise from the Shadow-.” Episode 13, titled “You aren’t E-rank, are you” and Episode 14 is titled “I Suppose You Aren’t Aware,” feature Jinwoo facing off against the formidable boss of the Red Gate Dungeon in a snowy tundra. The film opens in the U.S. and Canada on December 6.
Solo Leveling -ReAwakening- premieres in Japan on November 29 and runs until December 12. Running 120 minutes, the movie will be available in Japanese with English subtitles and as an English dub. Taito Ban will voice E-Rank-Hunter-turned-most-powerful-Hunter Sung Jinwoo, with Aleks Le providing the English dubbed voice.
Originally written as a webnovel by Chugong, the story takes place in a world where mysterious gates appear sporadically all over the world, connecting Dungeons to the human world. To prevent dungeon monsters from attacking the human world, Hunters— human warriors with extraordinary abilities—are sent to defeat the bosses there. Solo Leveling focuses on one particular Hunter, Sung Jinwoo, who starts as the weakest E-Rank Hunter and rises to become the most powerful in the world.
The web novel was adapted into a webcomic illustrated by the late DUBU, who received an overwhelmingly positive response for their stunning artwork. Due to its popularity, Solo Leveling received an anime adaptation with Shunsuke Nakashige as the director at A-1 Pictures and Noboru Kimura as the scriptwriter. Hiroyuki Sawano composed the music score with Tomorrow x Together performing the opening theme song “LEveL” and the ending song “Request” by Krage. Although Season 1 was initially set to premiere in 2023, it was delayed to January 2024.
Following the webcomic’s conclusion in December 2021, a spinoff webcomic titled Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, which follows Jinwoo’s son Suho, launched on August 1, 2024.
The Solo Leveling webcomic is available on Tapas, Tappytoon, and Manta, while the novel is available digitally on Tapas. Yen Press publishes the physical version of the webcomic and novel. The first season of the anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll, with Season 2 expected to premiere sometime in January 2025.
