At New York Comic Con on Saturday, Tapas Entertainment and Crunchyroll announced an anime adaptation of The Beginning After the End (TBATE) by TurtleMe, who will serve as executive producer on the series. Currently slated for release in 2025, the TBATE anime marks a major milestone as the first major animated adaptation of a US-created webcomic.
“We are incredibly excited to introduce The Beginning After the End as an anime, marking an exciting new chapter for both Tapas and this beloved series,” said Mike Zhu, Head of Comic and Film and TV at Tapas Entertainment, in a statement. “This is a wonderful opportunity that allows us to share TBATE’s epic story with fans around the world in a whole new way. This collaboration represents a major milestone for us and US-created webcomics, and we can’t wait to see the excitement it sparks among our community and beyond.”
“I’m excited to share that The Beginning After the End is becoming an anime on Crunchyroll,” added TurtleMe. “When I first started writing TBATE as a web novel years ago, I never imagined it would one day reach this point. This milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support from every fan along the way. I can’t wait to celebrate the premiere next year with all of you, whether you’re a long-time reader or a new viewer.”
The Beginning After the End follows King Grey, a ruler reborn in a magical world now living as Arthur Leywin. As he masters spells and battles terrifying enemies, Arthur has to stay alive, protect the people he loves, and figure out why he was incarnated…
Following a two-month hiatus, TBATE returns on October 19 on Tapas, where it’s been running since 2018. The comic is available in seven languages worldwide and there are five print volumes available through Yen Press, with more on the way.
TurtleMe will serve as EP and story supervisor on the anime adaptation, alongside Zhu, Tapas Entertainment’s Kevin Nicklaus, and TurtleMe LLC’s Gabrielle Luu. TBATE will be directed by Keitaro Motonaga (Date A Live, Katanagatari), with Takamitsu Kouno (Utawarerumono, Revue Starlight) overseeing the series composition, Masami Sueoka (Fate/Grand Order: Camelot and Black Clover) leading character design, and Keiji Inai (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, The Rising of the Shield Hero) composing the musical score.
