Love and Deepspace announces change in Zayne’s Japanese voice actor

The Chinese mobile game will be ending its contract with Sato Takuya on June 7, 2026.

Papergames / Infold Games’ popular romance simulation game, Love and Deepspace, announced on social media that Takuya Sato will no longer be Zayne’s Japanese voice actor after June 7th. The official statement cites a “mutual agreement” with Sato, and states further details of Rei’s (the Japanese character name for Zayne) voice lines will be announced “as soon as they are finalized.”

This comes as a shock to fans as major voice actor changes are rare, or follow a major controversy. Long time fans become attached to the original voices overtime, especially if they started alongside the launch of the game in 2024. Not to mention a complete overhaul and update of previously recorded voice lines will require time and adjustment, which means the decision doesn’t come lightly.

Love and Deepspace is described as a “brand-new installment in the popular Mr. Love series,” an astronomically popular dating simulation game in China. Players step into a sci-fi world with 3D cut scenes and immersive interactions. The game includes clothing customization for both the player character and their love interest, in-app messages, ASMR voice stories, and even a menstrual cycle tracker. Combined, it creates a tailored role-playing experience that even won it a Gamescom award in 2025. Players can also change the game and their love interest’s language to Korean, Japanese, English, or Mandarin.

Less than one week earlier, Papergames announced the end of service for the global server of Mr Love: Queen’s Choice. In its X post, the developer thanked fans for their support since 2019. The international version of the otome visual novel game will cease operation on March 27, 2026. However, the Chinese version of MLQC will still be available. In 2021, voice actor Jonah Scott was replaced because he “released an online statement containing incorrect facts” that Papergames did not agree with. Online speculation often cites this moment as the reason behind the lack of voice actor credits in the Love and Deepspace‘s English version. However, no similar precedent exists for the voice actors in the game’s other languages.
