Pokémon Day reveals WIND AND WAVES, PokémonXP news, more

30 looks good on the Pokémon franchise

-

The Pokémon Company hosted its annual Pokémon Day presentation on Friday, this time celebrating the franchise’s 30th anniversary.

In true Pokémon style, it went all-out for the event, revealing the next mainline game releasing in 2027, updates for current mobile games, classic titles being released on Nintendo Switch, and news about this summer’s inaugural PokémonXP fan event and the annual Pokémon World Championships.

The biggest piece of news from the stream is the announcement of Pokémon Wind and Waves, the next mainline games slated to hit the Nintendo Switch 2 next year. The brief trailer revealed special Pikachu (Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu, dressed for a beach vacation) and three new partner Pokémon: Browt, a grass chicken; Pombon, a fire dog; and Gecqua, a water reptile.

Wind and Waves will surely be a hot topic at this summer’s PokémonXP event, which will take place alongside the World Championships in San Francisco in August.

During Friday’s stream, Pokémon Global Esports and Events Director Chris Brown confirmed that Video Game World Championships competitors will battle in Pokémon Champions, and additional competitors will battle in Pokémon Go, Pokémon Unite, and the Pokémon Trading Card Game.

Players across the Pokémon mobile title catalogue can look forward to content updates starting as early as today, including new Pokémon, missions, in-game accessories, and more. Meanwhile, Pokémon Champions will port to the Nintendo Switch in April, alongside classic titles that are now available to play on Nintendo’s newest family of systems.
