Webtoon & The Paris Opera announce SECRET D’UNE ÉTOILE

The 30-episode series premieres on November 28 in France

Webtoon and The Paris Opera have teamed up for a rare collaboration and will launch a new webcomic series, Secret d’une Étoile (Secret of a Ballerina), later this month. Conceived as an entry point to the Opera’s centuries-long artistic tradition, the webcomic aims to bring the performing arts to new audiences in an immersive, accessible format.

Secret d’une Étoile (Secret of a Ballerina) is a 30-episode series that tells the story of Joy, a young, talented Korean dancer in the corps de ballet of the Paris Opera. As she approaches a decisive moment in her career, Joy is overcome by doubt and loses confidence in herself.

By chance, she discovers a principal dancer’s tiara that, upon touch, transports her to vibrant 1950s Paris. Living in the past as Cécilia, a famous prima ballerina of the Opera, Joy rediscovers her passion for dance and learns to truly express herself.

The series marks the first Webtoon collaboration between a French illustrator and a Korean writer, with StillUnderworld (Day Dreamer, Bleu comme le ciel) doing the art and Honey B (Back to You, Flow) doing the script.

“Webcomics and ballet are both powerful expressions of human creativity and passion, and that’’ what makes Secret d’une Étoile the perfect gateway for readers to fall in love with dance,” said Yongsoo Kim, Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Global Webtoon at Webtoon Entertainment. “We’re proud to support the Paris Opera’s centuries-long cultural legacy, bringing the stage to the mobile screen and helping the Opera reach new audiences in our immersive, accessible format.”

The Paris Opera said it is delighted by this partnership with Webtoon, which allows it to continue exploring new technologies with the aim of promoting the art of dance to young audiences through new narrative performances.

Secret d’une Étoile (Secret of a Ballerina) will launch in France on November 28, with further distribution on Korea’s Naver Webtoon and Webtoon’s English-language platform at a later date.
