Kakao Webtoon’s hit series A Bona Fide Killer is officially getting a live-action drama, starring Gong Hyo-jin (When the Camellia Blooms) as Yoo Bo-na, a devoted mother by day and a contract killer by night. The webtoon, created by writer Yoon and illustrator Geomdung, has amassed over 170 million views since debuting in 2020 and won the Grand Prize at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s 1st World Webtoon Awards in 2024.
In the story, Bo-na—once the legendary sniper “Kingfisher”—returns to the criminal underworld after a three-year parental leave, all while hiding her identity from her husband, a social affairs reporter played by Jung Joon-woon.
Yoon conceived the series as a contrast between life and death, inspired by the image of a mother who gives life but also takes it.
Now in its fourth season, A Bona Fide Killer continues to blend domestic realism with suspense, taking cues from real crime cases while avoiding sensationalism. With Gong leading the upcoming adaptation, the series’ signature mix of tension and empathy is set to reach an even broader audience.
