Kakao Entertainment is taking webtoon storytelling to the next level with a new artificial intelligence tool that automatically transforms comics into short-form videos.
The company announced on October 1 that it began offering its Helix Shorts AI Agent to creators on September 29. The new technology, available free of charge, automatically identifies key scenes from a webtoon and turns them into short clips—each about 40 seconds long.
“Helix Shorts” first launched on April 22 as part of Kakao Page’s short-form video service, which adapts popular webtoons into digestible, social media–ready clips. Initially, only select titles chosen by Kakao Entertainment were eligible for adaptation. Now, creators can generate and distribute their own videos directly using the Helix Shorts AI Agent.
Currently, the AI tool is being offered to Kakao Page’s exclusive content production partners, with plans to expand access to a wider range of creators in the near future.
Completed short-form videos can be shared across multiple platforms, including Kakao Page, production partners’ company websites, and YouTube, giving webtoon creators new ways to promote their stories and engage audiences beyond the page.
With AI-driven animation becoming increasingly common in the webtoon industry, Kakao Entertainment’s latest innovation positions the company as a key player in shaping how creators and readers experience digital storytelling.
