EJAE, the singing voice of Rumi in KPop Demon Hunters, has shared a heartfelt message on Instagram reflecting on her whirlwind year and her evolving identity as an artist. In the post, she expressed her gratitude for the recognition she’s received and announced her upcoming single, “In Another World,” set to release on October 24, 2025.
EJAE’s full note reads:
“The past few months have been a crazy ride… I mean I was just on SNL!!! I’m so humbled and grateful for the love I’ve received as a songwriter and the singing voice of Rumi from KPop Demon Hunters. Getting so much exposure so quickly has been strange, exciting, and truthfully a little scary. People keep referring to me as an ‘artist’ or a ‘star’- which is everything 11 year old EJAE dreamed of, but over the years, I became comfortable behind the scenes and I didn’t think I was meant to be an artist.
Recently though, I realized I don’t need to box myself into being the traditional view of an artist. To me, an artist is someone who uses their art to express themselves, and songwriting is my art. For years, writing has been my therapy, my way of coping, celebrating, making sense of the noise in my head. Along the way, I wrote some songs that never found the right home. I’ve decided I want my artist project to give life to those songs, so people can laugh, dance, or cry with me and the amazing collaborators who helped create them.
There’s one song that feels like the perfect place to start. Writing this song helped me through a hard time, and I hope that sharing it can help others too.
It’s called ‘In Another World’ and is releasing on 10/24/25.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far. I know my journey is still being written, and I am so grateful to anyone who is willing to tune in.”
EJAE has deep roots in the entertainment industry. She spent ten years training under SM Entertainment with dreams of becoming a K-pop idol before deciding to pursue her education at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. After graduating, she met Andrew Choi, who became her mentor and would later voice Jinu, the male lead in KPop Demon Hunters.
While EJAE ultimately chose a different path from idol stardom, she built an impressive career behind the scenes, penning songs for top-tier groups such as Red Velvet and aespa. Her songwriting credits include Red Velvet’s chart-topping hit “Psycho,” from The ReVe Festival: Finale (2019), which went on to earn a gold certification in the U.S.
With “In Another World,” EJAE is stepping back into the spotlight on her own terms—merging her experience as a songwriter with her renewed confidence as an artist. Fans can look forward to hearing a more personal side of the voice behind Rumi when the single drops later this month.
