KPop Demon Hunters is already a history-making juggernaut, but for its stars, the biggest moment came not from charts or streaming milestones—it was BTS.

The animated Netflix smash movie, about a demon-fighting K-Pop girl group, has shattered records since its June 20 release: it’s Netflix’s most-watched animated original, recently scored a Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 with its viral track “Golden,” and is heading to theaters in a special sing-along version Aug. 23–24. But when BTS gave the film a public nod of approval, the cast says their lives stopped.

“I felt my organs shut down,” admitted Jiyoung Yoo, who voices Zoey, adding that as a longtime ARMY, the moment was overwhelming. “Everyone kept asking me what I thought, and there were no thoughts. I thought I might faint.”

Arden Cho (Rumi) and May Hong (Mira) described the K-Pop superstars’ support as the ultimate validation. “That stamp of approval! We were like, yes, we did it,” Cho said, recalling how their phones “blew up” when the shoutout from some of K-pop’s biggest acts, including BTS and SEVENTEEN, hit.

The actresses emphasized how meaningful it was that idols themselves embraced the film’s portrayal of K-Pop life, from training struggles to stage perfection. “We wanted to make sure we got Korea right, that we got the culture right,” Yoo explained. “To see them not just accept it but embrace it, and support it, and give us so much love, is just the biggest sigh of relief.”

Cho added that the movie’s authenticity was intentional, crediting the creative team for its meticulous attention to music, fashion, and cultural nuance: “All of us cared about this so much… I’m so grateful.”

With global fandoms, critics, and now BTS in their corner, the stars of KPop Demon Hunters are bracing for what comes next, including serious Oscar buzz. But for Yoo, Hong, and Cho, it’s clear one milestone will always stand out: being noticed by their idols.

KPop Demon Hunters is streaming now on Netflix.
