LAFTEL announces DRAGON GIRL animation with preview

A dragon girl flees her underwater home… to attend high school with a bunch of 18-year-olds.

Yes, that’s the actual premise of Yonghan Girl—or Dragon Girl, as it roughly translates—though the Korean title is also a play on the phrase “talented girl.” Streaming platform LAFTEL recently dropped a preview video for the upcoming animation adaptation, and out of all the new animation releases, Dragon Girl stands out for its smooth visuals. The trailer introduces the main characters, including a male lead with a consistently brooding expression. The opening theme is titled “I’m Running to You.”

For now, Dragon Girl appears to be exclusive to Korean audiences, as the global version of LAFTEL has not announced whether it will stream the series. If it does become available internationally, it will likely be limited to Indonesia, Indochina, the Philippines, and Malaysia.

Created by writer-artist Olso, Dragon Girl follows Kim Yongman, the daughter of the Dragon King, who escapes from the sea to avoid an arranged political marriage. Determined to chart her own path, she enrolls in a human high school with one goal: to become the top student. Unfortunately, that spot is already taken—by Shim Hae-soo, who has no plans to give it up.

The webtoon debuted on Naver Webtoon on December 22, 2020, and currently boasts 87 episodes. The series went on hiatus on March 18, 2025, due to the creator’s health issues. A return date has not been announced.

LAFTEL continues to build its reputation as the home of webcomic-to-animation adaptations, having previously hosted Pyramid Game, Red Fox, and Dangerous Convenience Store.

As of now, Dragon Girl does not have an official English translation.
