K-Pop icon BoA has canceled her fifth solo concert after being diagnosed with a serious health condition.
SM Entertainment released an official statement explaining the decision:
“Hello, this is SM Entertainment. We regret to inform you that BoA’s fifth solo concert has been canceled due to the artist’s health-related issues.
After experiencing worsening knee pain, BoA visited a hospital and received a diagnosis of acute osteonecrosis, which requires surgical treatment. Doctors advised her to avoid strenuous physical activity—including dancing and performing—to prevent the condition from progressing. BoA has decided to follow medical advice and move forward with surgery.
As a result, her concert, originally scheduled for August 30 and 31, has been unavoidably canceled. We sincerely apologize for the concern this sudden news may cause fans. BoA’s health remains our top priority, and we kindly ask for your understanding.
Despite the cancellation, we still plan to release her completed album on schedule in celebration of her 25th debut anniversary. We’ll share any updates regarding a future concert based on her recovery.
We’ll continue to prioritize BoA’s health and safety, and we’re committed to supporting her full recovery.”
Fans quickly responded with concern and support. One commented, “I hope she receives proper treatment and takes it easy.” Another noted the gravity of the situation, saying, “Isn’t this the first time in 25 years that she’s canceled a concert because of pain?”
Known as the Queen of K-Pop, BoA debuted in 2000 with the album ID; Peace B under SM Entertainment. Since then, she has released twenty studio albums—ten in Korean, nine in Japanese, and one in English. BoA was the first South Korean idol to break through in Japan, with Valenti and Best of Soul each selling over one million copies, according to Oricon. Her success helped spark Japanese interest in K-Pop and contributed to cultural exchange between the two countries.
In addition to her music career, BoA has also acted in several dramas, including 2024’s Marry My Husband.
