There’s no stopping Huntrix and the Saja Boys—these K-Pop groups are making themselves known and heard.
KPop Demon Hunters premiered on Netflix on June 20 and has already earned praise for its animation and music. Fans are already demanding a sequel. The film currently ranks as the #1 movie on Netflix’s Top 10 Movies in the U.S. and has also claimed the top spot in 18 other countries.
Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, produced by Michelle Wong, and written by Kang, Appelhans, Hannah McMechan, and Danya Jimenez, the film originated from Kang’s vision to spotlight Korean culture—including mythology, K-Pop, and fashion.
The story follows a K-Pop girl group, the Huntrix—Rumi, Mira, and Zoey—who are also demon hunters. Their voices form a barrier called the Honmoon, which prevents demons from breaking through. But when demons retaliate with their own K-pop boy band, the Saja Boys, led by Jinu, the stakes rise. Their goal? Drain energy from fans to feed their king, Gwi-Ma.
Arden Cho voices Rumi, who hides a secret. May Hong plays Mira, a bubbly singer haunted by her past. Jiyoung Yoo brings Zoey to life—a songwriter and rapper battling insecurity. Ahn Hyo-seop voices Jinu, the Saja Boys’ charismatic leader.
And no K-Pop film would be complete without royalty: TWICE’s Jeongyeon, Jihyo, and Chaeyoung perform the lead single, “TAKEDOWN.” EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and REI AMI provide the singing voices for the Huntrix.
