Tapas is teaming up with Kickstarter for a one-of-a-kind comics contest that gives independent creators a chance to turn their daydreams into print reality.

Announced last week, the Tapas x Kickstarter Contest invites comic creators to submit short stories centered on the theme “Daydreaming: Stories about Make Believe and exploring what it means to be a kid.” The contest runs from June 3 to August 17, 2025, and is open to legal residents in 20+ countries, including the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia.

Entries must be 10 pages or fewer, formatted at 6″ x 9″ and 300 dpi, and uploaded to Tapas with the tag “TapasxKickstarter_Daydreaming.” Only one entry per Tapas account is allowed, and the story must be all-ages and in English. Scrolling format submissions will not be accepted.

The Top 10 winners will have their work featured in a Tapas-run Kickstarter campaign for a printed anthology. If the campaign is successful, all finalists will share in the profits. The Top 5 winners will also receive cash prizes:

  • 1st Place: $3,000

  • 2nd Place: $1,500

  • 3rd Place: $900

  • 4th Place: $350

  • 5th Place: $250

Creators who place 6th through 10th will each receive 130,000 Ink, Tapas’ digital currency (valued at $99.99 USD).

All winners will additionally receive direct access to Kickstarter’s Senior Outreach Lead for Comics, Sam Kusek, to get guidance on future crowdfunding projects.

Winners will be announced on October 2, 2025. Creators must agree to participate in the Kickstarter campaign and sign a licensing agreement for inclusion in the print collection. If the campaign doesn’t fund, winners will still keep their cash or Ink prizes.
