Jiang Cheng and Gu Fei get closer in RUN WILD: SA YE Vol. 3 cover

Now...kiss!

-

The third volume cover of Run Wild: Sa Ye perfectly captures the feeling of summer.

Seven Seas thrilled fans with a warm, summery cover reveal for Vol. 3 of the modern high school danmei series Run Wild: Sa Ye. Jiang Cheng and Gu Fei sit in front of a convenience store, sharing a smoke (Disclaimer: We do not endorse smoking because smoking kills!). And when we say “sharing a smoke,” we mean they’re lighting their cigarettes from the same flame, drawing just a breath apart from one another. Jiang Cheng casually holds a cherry between two fingers in his other hand.

Run Wild: Sa Ye, written by Wu Zhe, ranks among the top modern danmei series on the JJWXC platform. Fans greeted Seven Seas’ license announcement with overwhelmingly positive feedback. The six-volume release began with Vol. 1 on January 21, 2025. 踏月锦 (Tayue Jin) illustrated the Vol. 3 cover, while Ding Yue Rong provided the interior artwork.

A Shot in the Dark

Here’s the synopsis for Vol. 3:

Basketball, homework, goofing off, making out… His budding relationship with Gu Fei is a bright spot for Jiang Cheng as he begins to settle into life away from the big city where he grew up. But it’s not all high school sports tournaments and kissing in the back of the movie theater. Gu Fei is determined to keep Jiang Cheng away from the town’s dangerous underbelly, but Monkey, the leader of a local street gang, is holding a grudge…and the only way for Gu Fei to put it to rest is to face off against Monkey in a deadly contest that could leave him injured or worse.

Meanwhile, when his father falls ill, Jiang Cheng is forced to make a decision. Is his sense of duty toward the violent man who gave him away as a child worth compromising his newfound freedom?

Run Wild: Sa Ye begins with Jiang Cheng getting kicked out of his home by his adoptive parents and forced to move in with his deadbeat, gambling-addict father. He’s already planning his escape, but things take a turn when he meets Gu Miao, a little girl who communicates mainly through snaps and gestures. That encounter leads him to her brother, Gu Fei—a boy with a music staff shaved into his hair. Despite their differences, being stuck in the same gray town and chasing the same distant future pulls Jiang Cheng and Gu Fei toward each other.

The series’ popularity has led to several adaptations: a manhua that was abruptly canceled, a donghua with no signs of release, and a live-action series (Chasing the Light) that sadly may never see the light of day.

Vol. 3 is priced at $19.99 USD / $26.99 CAD and releases on October 14.
