Seven Seas‘ Pride Month celebrations continue with a milestone announcement for baihe fans—the reveal of their first-ever Chinese Girls’ Love (GL) title.
As part of their weekly Wonderful Wednesday reveals, Seven Seas surprised fans by unveiling not one, but two covers for The Beauty’s Blade, a standalone historical baihe romance by author Feng Ren Zuo Shu. The first edition features art by popular illustrator Xiao Tong Kong (also known as Velinxi), who may be familiar to danmei readers as the cover artist for The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System. The artwork showcases protagonists Fu Wanqing and Yu Shengyan locked in a graceful yet intense moment, set against a backdrop of cherry blossom branches and swirling petals.
The Crunchyroll Store exclusive edition offers a striking contrast with art by Gravity Dusty, who also provides the book’s interior illustrations. This darker red-toned cover highlights a more intimate moment between the two leads, with swords strewn around them, emphasizing the romantic tension and battlefield stakes that define the story.
For those new to the term, baihe (百合), literally meaning “lily”, is the Chinese equivalent of the Japanese yuri, referring to stories focused on romantic relationships between women.
The Beauty’s Blade tells a sweeping tale of two enemies brought together by fate and divided by duty. With swordplay, political intrigue, and slow-burn yearning, this single-volume release marks a bold step for Seven Seas as it expands into the baihe genre.
Here’s the official synopsis from Seven Seas:
Ruthless and mercurial, Fu Wanqing is hardly the type of woman anyone expected to be heir to the jianghu’s preeminent righteous cultivation sect. Yet she’s famous for more than just her attitude: her raw power and beauty are renowned, rivaled only by those of demonic sect leader Yu Shengyan.
As such, Fu Wanqing is determined to face her in battle; after all, she must prove herself not just worthy of her station, but superior beyond the rest!
Unfortunately, the ice-cold Yu Shengyan couldn’t be less interested in her challenge. Yet when Fu Wanqing offers the rare medicine Yu Shengyan needs to cure one of her comrades, she relents. The catch? Yu Shengyan must agree to stay by Fu Wanqing’s side for three months. Fu Wanqing is certain that by the end of their deal, she’ll get her duel—but will her fascination with Yu Shengyan come to encompass more than just her sword?
The Beauty’s Blade releases on November 4. Which edition will you get—or will you be collecting both?
