Let’s Play may return soon.
On August 18, 2024, Leeanne M. Krecic, professionally known as Mongie, shared an update on her WEBTOON feed, explaining why she hasn’t released Let’s Play Season 4. According to her post, an exclusivity contract with WEBTOON prevents her from publishing the new season until after September 2025. She wrote:
“Anyway, I still can’t post the next season of Let’s Play (aka season 4) until my exclusivity contract has expired with WEBTOON. Their contracts are 3 years (see this article on ComicsBeat), so I am unable to return to updating Let’s Play with new episodes until after September 2025. An NDA made discussing these details difficult in the past, but since WT came forward and stated the exclusivity length publicly, I can cite it here.”
Comics Beat first reported the news in November 2022, when Mongie announced on social media that she would not post Season 4 to WEBTOON. Although she didn’t share specific reasons at the time, she hinted at ongoing issues. Her message read:
“Unfortunately, I must report some sad news. I will not be returning with season 4 of Let’s Play at WEBTOON. This was an incredibly difficult decision, and no single event led to it. There have been ongoing difficulties for several years, most of which I can’t discuss, nor is this the appropriate forum. But some concerns include Let’s Play being excluded from marketing, despite promises to the contrary, and placing LP behind an age gate when there are series with far more controversial content that isn’t restricted. My representation has voiced these concerns and others to the necessary individuals at WEBTOON, but the blame was reflected back at me for incredibly far-fetched reasons. These issues, among many others, have made me feel marginalized and that WEBTOON does not value Let’s Play or me.”
At the time, Mongie promised to announce a new platform for Season 4 when possible. Although she paused Let’s Play, she continued creating. In 2023, she signed with Manta Comics and announced Dragon King Oath, her latest project, which was set to premiere in late 2024 as a Manta exclusive. Mongie praised the platform, saying:
“I found a committed team [at Manta] that listens, collaborates, and celebrates shared goals. As we forge ahead, I’m reminded of the ever-supportive community that has enjoyed my work and celebrated each milestone with me. I’m eager for everyone to see what’s next.”
Let’s Play is a Ringo Award–winning and Eisner Award–nominated comic that was published digitally on WEBTOON from 2016 until 2022. The comic follows Sam Young, a young woman discovering romance while pursuing a career in indie game development. Her passion project, a game called Ruminate, is slammed by popular streamer Marshall Law, who just happens to be her new neighbor. Sam’s journey involves balancing personal growth, professional ambition, and complicated relationships, including an overbearing father. The series is known for exploring serious topics such as anxiety and depression with care and nuance.
In 2023, it was also announced that Let’s Play would receive an anime adaptation by renowned animation studio OLM.
With September 2025 approaching, fans are hopeful that Mongie will soon announce Let’s Play Season 4’s new home.
