Zombies aren’t so bad—they just need to be trained not to kill and eat people! How hard could it be?
At least, that’s what Lee Jeonghwan keeps trying to convince himself—and everyone else around him. In the live-action film adaptation of My Daughter is a Zombie, Jo Jung-suk portrays Lee Jeonghwan, a father desperately (and perhaps in vain) trying to tame his zombie daughter, Soo Ah (Choi Yuri). He whisks her away to Eunbong Village, where his mother lives, hoping to hide her from the rest of the world.
The teaser drops viewers into the middle of a zombie attack which, unlike most zombie media, doesn’t scare the humans. Growl at Lee Jeonghwan and he’ll snarl right back. Although Soo Ah is no longer the daughter he once knew, Jeonghwan still tries to raise her with the same discipline—just with a little more caution. Together with his friend Dong Bae (Yoon Kyungho), he does his best to re-integrate her into human society. But things get complicated when Jeonghwan’s first love, Yeon Hwa (Cho Yeo Jeong), reenters his life—and she’s definitely not a fan of zombies.
Yun-chang Lee’s My Daughter is a Zombie originally ran from August 2018 to June 2020. The series opens with a devastating zombie attack that leaves Korea in ruins. A year later, the government declares the country zombie-free—except for one: Lee Jeonghwan’s daughter. The English version launched on WEBTOON in September 2020, spans 90 episodes, and has racked up more than 23 million views.
Before the live-action film, an animated adaptation produced by EBS and DURUFIX aired from April to June 2022.
My Daughter is a Zombie will take a bite out of Korean theater screens this July. The webtoon is available to read now on WEBTOON.
