Just weeks after Seven Seas Entertainment revealed the special edition goodies for Joyful Reunion Vol. 1, the publisher unveiled the cover for the second volume.
Volume 2 features a grown-up Duan Ling holding hands with Wu Du beneath a soft pink sky. The two share quiet smiles as they gaze at each other. Fans responded more favorably to this cover than the first. Porridge illustrated the new cover, while Ruthie will take over as the interior artist moving forward.
Author Arise Zhang, also known by the pen name Fei Tian Ye Xiang, penned the story. Although Volume 1 has yet to hit shelves—it’s scheduled for release on August 5—Seven Seas has already revealed the next installment’s artwork. Mimi, Suika, and yunyun translated the series, with a special thanks to Foxghost.
Seven Seas previously shared a sneak peek at the Special Edition merchandise, along with an updated version of the Volume 1 cover after fans voiced concerns about the original design.
Shadow of the Assassin
The synopsis of Vol. 2 reads as follows:
In the wake of the fall of Shangjing, Duan Ling flees the city, setting out on a desperate journey to reunite with his father in the imperial capital of Xichuan. When he arrives, however, nothing is as he hoped. After losing nearly everything—including his life—the despairing Duan Ling is rescued by Wu Du, a down on his luck poison master and assassin.
Terrified of being killed if his true identity is discovered, Duan Ling assumes a false name and scrapes out a meager life in Wu Du’s shadow. Yet the more he gets to know the prickly assassin, the more Duan Ling feels his rescuer can be relied on. When Wu Du’s master sends the two on a dangerous mission together, Duan Ling must decide: Can this man who saved his life be trusted with it?
Joyful Reunion follows Duan Ling, an unwanted child mistreated by his late mother’s family. One day, a mysterious man named Lang Junxia arrives at the Duan estate. He claims to know Duan Ling’s father and says he’s been instructed to take the boy away. Duan Ling soon discovers that his origins are far more complicated than he ever imagined—and he becomes entangled in political upheaval as war breaks out across the land.
Volume 2 of Joyful Reunion hits shelves on September 16, just a month after the series debut.
