Yumi’s Cells is returning for Season 3, and with it, a familiar face and a new one.
Kim Go Eun reprises her role as Yumi, while Kim Jae Won joins the cast as Soon Rok, Yumi’s final love interest. Soon Rok is the new PD at Julie Publishing’s editorial department and is guided almost entirely by his “rational cell,” which starkly contrasts Yumi’s ever-spiraling “emotional cell.”
Director Lee Sang Yeob and writers Song Jae Jung and Kim Kyung Ran will also return for the third season.
In an interview translated by Soompi, Kim Go Eun shared her hopes for the upcoming season:
“I want to capture the various turning points in Yumi’s life as she has grown over the years through Season 3. Since this journey began with Yumi in 2021, I hope to finish it well.”
Kim Jae Won, stepping into the franchise for the first time, promised fans:
“[I’ll] do my very best to create a wonderful Soon Rok in this series as well. I would be grateful for your continued support and love.”
Season 1 premiered on September 17, 2021, with 14 episodes, followed by Season 2 on June 10, 2022, also with 14 episodes. The series has earned several accolades, including:
-
Best Original Programme by a Streamer at the 2022 Asian Academy Creative Awards
-
Best Leading Actress (Kim Go Eun) at the Blue Dragon Series Awards
-
Excellence Award in OTT/Web/App Content at the Korea Communications Commission Broadcasting Awards
Adapted from Lee Donggeon’s webcomic, Yumi’s Cells originally ran from April 2015 to November 2020 on Naver WEBTOON, spanning 512 chapters. The story follows Yumi and the adorable blue-hooded brain cells that steer her life. Its popularity led to three games, a webnovel, and even an animated film, Yumi’s Cells: The Movie, which premiered on April 3, 2024.
Season 3 will premiere in the first half of 2026 on TVING. In the meantime, catch up on Yumi’s adventures (and activate your own brain cells) on WEBTOON.
