Yeon Sangho‘s newest horror-thriller film Colony assembles an all-star cast.
Yeon Sangho, the acclaimed director of Train to Busan, Seoul Station, and Peninsula, is back with a new horror-thriller: Colony. Currently in production, the film boasts an all-star lineup, according to Variety.
Leading the cast is Jun Jihyun (My Sassy Girl, My Love from the Star, The Legend of the Blue Sea), who adopted the English name Gianna Jun when she debuted in Hollywood with Blood: The Last Vampire in 2009. Koo Kyohwan, who previously worked with Yeon on Peninsula as Captain Seo, reunites with the director after his recent performance as Seol Kangwoo in the live-action Parasyte remake.
Joining them are Ji Changwook (Empress Ki, Healer, Revolver) and Shin Hyunbeen (Hospital Playlist), who also collaborated with Yeon on Revelations.
While plot details remain limited, Colony carries the chilling tagline: “As the virus spreads, the order begins to mutate.” The story unfolds at a biotechnology conference where a rapidly mutating virus infects attendees. As chaos erupts, the facility goes into lockdown, forcing survivors to find a way out before it’s too late.
Colony is produced by Wowpoint and Smilegate in association with Midnight Studio and will be distributed internationally by Showbox.
Though Yeon gained widespread fame with Train to Busan—his first live-action feature—he earned critical acclaim with earlier animated films. His debut feature, The King of Pigs (2011), became the first Korean animated film invited to the Cannes Film Festival. He followed up with The Fake (2013), which won Best Animated Feature at the Sitges Film Festival. His third animated feature, Seoul Station, served as a prequel to Train to Busan.
Colony will release sometime in 2026.
