The Beginning After the End novel will go on a short hiatus.
TurtleMe, author of The Beginning After the End (TBATE), announced on Tapas that the novel will take a brief hiatus. He clarified that this pause isn’t a formal break but rather a chance to write more chapters for the story’s final arc. No new chapters will release in June. The next chapter, titled “Folded Space Fall, Part 1,” will come out on May 23.
TBATE started as a webnovel on Royal Road before an editor at Tapas invited TurtleMe to publish it on their platform. He uploaded the first 30 chapters on January 18, 2017. Inspired by works like Mushoku Tensei and various wuxia titles, the story of a king reborn in a child’s body after being murdered has captivated a global audience and become one of Tapas’ standout titles, remarkably, as an American webnovel.
The webnovel’s success led to a webcomic adaptation with TurtleMe continuing as the writer and Fuyuki23 initially as the artist. After several artist changes, the comic’s sixth season is currently illustrated by MGK-story. TBATE remains one of the platform’s top webcomics, amassing nearly 45 million views.
The story reached another milestone when Studio A-Cat produced the first anime adaptation of an American webnovel/webcomic. The anime premiered on April 2 and will run 24 episodes in its first season. However, fan reactions have been mixed, with many disappointed by the animation quality. TurtleMe responded on Reddit, asking fans to be respectful and expressing his belief that everyone involved is putting forth their best effort.
Recently, TurtleMe announced plans for a Kickstarter to fund a print release of the novel at SakuraCon, but it has not yet launched, and neither TurtleMe nor Tapas has shared further details. Yen Press holds the print license for the webcomic adaptation.
