The First Night with the Duke‘s first trailer is sure to have everyone springing to their feet.
Viki has released an exclusive trailer for the drama adaptation of The First Night with the Duke. College student K wakes up to the shrill yell of her maid and discovers her modern-day bedroom has transformed into a cozy Joseon-style room. Realizing she’s no longer in Kansas, er, Korea, K finds herself in the body of a minor romance novel character named Cha Sun Chaek. After running into the story’s hero, Yi Beon, she impulsively kisses him on the cheek, leaving him stunned and accusing her of treason. Now, her only escape from execution is to marry him.
The drama stars two iconic second-generation K-Pop idols: Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun plays Cha Sun Chaek (originally named Ripley in the English webtoon), while 2PM’s Taecyeon takes on the role of Yi Beon (originally Zeronis).
Originally written by Hwang DoTol as a webnovel set in a Western fantasy world, The First Night with the Duke has been reimagined for the drama as a Joseon-era period piece. Before its drama debut, the story was adapted into a popular webtoon by writer Teava and artist MSG. With over 114 million views, the webcomic follows a college student who wakes up in her favorite novel as an extra and plans to stay out of the plot—until she unexpectedly catches the attention of the novel’s male lead.
