If you’ve been on the fence about buying the special edition of Joyful Reunion, this preview might convince you.
Seven Seas Entertainment revealed all the goodies included in the special edition of its historical danmei series Joyful Reunion. Unlike some of their earlier box sets, this one features a few new surprises. Along with a 5″ x 7″ sticker sheet (with ten individual stickers), a 2″ x 7″ double-sided bookmark, and a 5″ x 5″ art board, this edition includes a new 25″ x 7″ double-sided paper folding screen featuring original artwork on both sides. Like previous special editions, it also comes with illustrations by secret guest artists.
The art board will have gold-colored trim, but it remains unclear whether it will be a shikishi board or an art print. The last art board of this kind appeared in The Disabled Tyrant’s Beloved Pet Fish, and it wasn’t a traditional shikishi board. In response to customer questions on X (formerly Twitter), the publisher stated, “Hello. The shikishi/art board for this book didn’t come out the way we originally planned, so we’re looking into what happened. We apologize that it deviated in style from what we announced. We’re also re-evaluating the product so future shikishi have different specs.”
In other news, Joyful Reunion’s cover art has been revised. When the publisher first unveiled it, fans noticed issues with character proportions—especially Lang Junxia—as well as concerns with the font and the designs for the horse and Duan Ling. The updated version addresses all of those elements.
Written by Arise Zhang (Fei Tian Ye Xiang), Joyful Reunion will have both a regular and special edition available, with the regular edition priced at $19.99 USD and $26.99 CAD, while the special edition is priced at $29.99 USD and $39.99 CAD. Porridge illustrated the cover art while Qiangtou handled the interior art.
The publisher had this as the synopsis:
