Seo Yeji may be returning to the small screen—and in a chilling way. According to Spotvnews, the actress has received an offer to star in the upcoming drama adaptation of the webtoon Forest of Humans. If she accepts, this would mark her first drama role in three years since 2022’s Eve. As of this article’s publication, Seo is still reviewing the script and has not confirmed her participation.
Forest of Humans is a psychological horror webtoon written and illustrated by Junho Hwang. It premiered on the WEBTOON English platform on June 26, 2021, and, despite its brief 32-episode run, has garnered over 3 million views.
The story follows a young woman trapped in a research facility with ten psychopathic murderers, each brought in for experimentation. When she becomes paralyzed, she must rely on her wits and determination to survive and escape.
Seo launched her acting career in 2013 with the sitcom Potato Star 2013QR3 and later earned a Best New Actress nomination for Diary of a Night Watchman. She joined Gold Medalist in January 2020 and earned widespread praise for her performance in the hit romantic comedy It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, where she played a reclusive children’s book author with antisocial personality disorder.
Seo’s rising career took a major hit in April 2021 following a controversy involving actor Kim Junghyun. During a 2018 press conference for The Time, Kim appeared emotionless and avoided physical contact with co-star Seohyun. Reports later alleged that Seo, his then-girlfriend, had pressured him to avoid interactions with other female cast members. Kim eventually left the drama mid-production, citing health reasons, and the situation was linked to Seo’s influence. As a result, Seo stepped down from the lead role in Island and withdrew from the public eye.
Her name resurfaced amid allegations tied to Kim Soohyun during the Kim Saeron case. A former Gold Medalist staff member claimed that the agency had used Seo as a scapegoat to shield others involved.
