According to a report from The Korea Times, Red Velvet’s Yeri has officially left SM Entertainment.
Despite parting ways with the company, the K-Pop star will continue to participate in Red Velvet’s group activities. Moving forward, she will focus on her acting career under her real name, Kim Ye-rim, having signed with Blitzway Entertainment on May 1.
Yeri joined SM Entertainment in 2011 after passing an SM Weekly Audition. She became a member of Red Velvet in 2015, seven months after the group debuted. Before her official debut, she was part of SM Rookies and appeared in music videos for Henry’s “1-4-3” and SHINee’s “Why So Serious.”
Yeri has steadily expanded her acting career, starting with a cameo as herself in Descendants of the Sun (2016), followed by a lead role as O Ha-rin in Blue Birthday (2021). She most recently starred in the TV mini-series Bitch X Rich as Baek Je-na, a third-generation chaebol embroiled in psychological warfare with Kim Hye-in, a poor student offered admission to Cheongdam International High School in exchange for her silence about a murder she witnessed. The show earned a 7.5 rating on MyDramaList and 6.6 on IMDb. Yeri is set to reprise her role in the show’s upcoming second season.
In addition to her music and acting work, Yeri has made a number of appearances on variety shows, including You Hee-yeol’s Sketchbook, Running Man, and Knowing Bros.
